INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING AUTHOR

NICOLE TROPE

USA Today, Amazon & iBooks Top 10 bestselling author, Nicole Trope, is an Australian author of psychological suspense and domestic thrillers.

Hello and welcome to my official author website.

I’ve been a published writer since 2012 but I’ve been writing forever.

Before I was a writer, I was an avid reader and I still am today. In high school, I used to read books under my desk in English class and occasionally look up and answer a question so I didn’t get caught.

I write to entertain but I also write for the same reason I read, to see my own life reflected in the lives of others.

Publishing a novel was a goal I set for myself decades ago and it took me a long time to achieve that dream. I am so grateful that I get to make up stories every day and that you, my readers, love those stories.

I’ll keep this website updated with new novels coming out and any other exciting projects in the future. Please enjoy your visit and if you want to send me a message, I’m always delighted to hear from my readers on Facebook, Instagram or on this website. Sign up to my Bookouture newsletter to receive a free short story and news about my upcoming releases.

Thanks for visiting.

ABOUT MY WRITING LIFE

What did the early years look like?

I went to university to study Law, but quickly realised the error of my ways after doing very badly on my first law essay because, as my professor pointed out, 'It’s not meant to be a story.'

I switched to teaching instead and used my holidays to work on my writing career and completed a Master’s degree in Children's Literature. In between raising three children, working for my husband and renovating houses, I’ve built up my writing career.

Where do you write?

I write in the loft at the top of an old house. It’s too hot in Summer and too cold in Winter but I love my little space. Here’s a picture of my desk. I tidied before I took it because it’s usually a complete mess with notes on my latest manuscript lying everywhere and empty mugs because I drink a lot of green tea while I work.

How many books do you write a year?

Right now, I am publishing three novels a year. It sounds like a lot but it’s what I love to do.

What’s your process? (& meet Jax!)

I try to have the chapter or scene I’m working on fleshed out in my mind before I sit down so it flows. In the morning, I’ll do things that use my hands, like washing, so that my mind is free to plan. And then when I sit down at my computer, the washing is done and the work can begin.

I write almost every day and if I’m in the middle of editing, at night as well.

In every writing session, I’m joined by Jax. He’s no help at all but he is nice company. This is my favourite picture of him because I told him to sit nicely for a photo and he did.

This is what he does while I work and he waits for afternoon walk time.

What’s the worst thing about being a writer?

I hate the first draft. I have a whole story in my head and now have to get it onto the page and I can never seem to write quickly enough.

What’s the best thing?

I love the first full edit. I enjoy playing around with words and sentences while knowing that the whole story is there.

What do you read?

I read everything. I write psychological thrillers so I read less of them but I enjoy everything from romance to detective fiction. Some of my favourite writers are Terry Pratchett, Ann Patchett, Richard Osman, Anne Tyler, Fay Weldon, Alice Hoffman and so many more. I would love to read more, but I get to read about three books a month on average.
